On the Weightiest UN Stage, President Lula Stands Up for Press Freedom

President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has called out governments that are hostile towards critical journalists at the opening of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 19, 2023.

Journalists Sanctuary International supports president Lula’s bold call to arguably the most powerful country in the world, the United states of America.

Journalism is not and has never been a crime. We thus call on all nations involved in Julian Assange’s current predicament to give him his freedom for informing the world. Assange’s work which landed him in his current state was nothing short of bold and critical journalism and he must not be punished for doing his work.
